Christmas in Longview

Christmas has arrived and there's plenty of fun things to do in Longview. One of the local favorites is Carmela's Santa Land. This winter wonderland features almost 2 million lights, dancing trees, Nativity scenes, popular children's characters and more.

Carmela Davis, a Longview accountant, started the Mini Santa Land 14 years ago as a way to give back to the community. Held at her Spring Hill home in the previous years, the attraction moved to U.S. 259 in 2016. Davis said, "It became an opportunity to expand the display.

She and volunteers worked through the summer and early fall to set up the new location, which allows more lights and new attractions, including a drive-through tunnel.

"If I say so myself, it's pretty awesome," Davis said of the new setup.

A longtime member of Longview Too Ambucs, Davis held a special Ambucs event in which she allowed children and adults with special needs, along with veterans, to attend early.

Carmela's Santa Land is just north of Bar K Ranch Store and about half a mile south of the U.S. 259/Judson Road intersection. Because U.S. 259 is a four-lane highway with wide shoulders, Davis expects better access and doesn't foresee having to turn anyone away this year. This past year, traffic was so backed up at her home that she had to refuse some people. The new property also features room for expansion. While Carmela's Mini Santa Land is free to attend, donations will be accepted on site and online.
