6 Ways to Celebrate Summer

Summer in Longview is filled with sunny days and blue skies so it's no surprise that it's one of the best times to visit. From outdoor movies under the stars to air-conditioned conventions, we've got the events to inspire a quick trip. If you're considering a getaway this sultry season, start with our list of 6 Ways to Celebrate Summer.

1. Longview Comicon - June 1 and 2

Longview Comicon is a fun two-day event where comics fans, creators, and experts congregate to attend panels, go to parties, and participate in discussions that are all centered on some aspect of comics. Many attendees wear quirky costumes which adds to the fun.

2.  Movies on the Plaza - June 1 

Locals really love Movies on the Plaza at Heritage Plaza. This year’s event features the Academy Award nominated film "Mary Poppins Returns." Bring your lawn chair or blanket and enjoy the outdoor movie with free popcorn and soda. Local food trucks will be nearby and the movie starts when the sun sets. 

3. Downtown Longview Wine Swirl - June 8

Visit downtown and mingle among the Texas wineries and gourmet food vendors for an afternoon of wine, food and fun. Attendees of Downtown Longview Wine Swirl will receive a keepsake glass, a wine tote and a bottle opener. If you’re not a wine drinker, that's okay. Visit one of our unique downtown businesses to try a delicious craft beer, signature coffee or other delicious offerings.

4. Longview Craw Fest - June 8

With your general admission ticket to Longview Craw Fest, sample crawfish from some of our best seafood restaurants. Listen to live music performed by White Trash Wannabes, The Darrin Morris Band, and the Wade Skinner Band with special guest Jake Penrod. See which restaurant wins the bragging rights as the winner of the best crawfish dish cook-off. Check out vendor booths, buy a cold brew, and enjoy the giveaways under the Texas sky.

5. Fireworks & Freedom Celebration - July 4

Independence Day will be one to remember with a free outdoor concert by Longview band Dagnabbit and headliner Uncle Kracker. At the Fireworks & Freedom Celebration, enjoy the largest fireworks show in East Texas and a wide variety of fun with carnival rides, food trucks, and a vendor hall with almost 100 vendors.

6. Great Texas Balloon Race - July 26, 27, 28

See balloons take flight each morning of the Great Texas Balloon Race. Enjoy the nightly Balloon Glows as the sky is filled with an awesome display of color and light as the balloons are lit. Listen to live music on Friday and Saturday nights as bands entertain the crowd. Shop for souvenirs along the midway shopping mall and stay for some local BBQ or burgers.
