It's about to get frightful in Longview with a witches brew of Halloween inspired events. Grab a thermos of apple cider and head out to try some of these spooky spots.
Doc Wilkes House of Horrors will leave you breathless as you experience a night of terror exploring the sights. Story has it that Doc Wilkes found the old abandoned trailers on 1228 Market Street, and that is where he died, but his body was never found. Now Doc Wilkes and his victims haunt the land. Local residents have reported hearing screaming and laughing coming from inside the trailers, but Police have been called to the scene and it’s a vacant building on the inside. (7:30 pm every Friday and Saturday in October)
Come visit
Graystone Haunted Manor, if you dare, and experience the Manor where a family lived and died. Or did they? Walk thru Oak Raven Cemetery where the departed never sleep. Take a trip through time and visit the very places where the doctor once stood. See the pyramids and riches of Egypt. Be a witness at the Salem Witch Trials. Sit in the electric chair at Alcatraz, take a walk through the Bayous of Louisiana then run through the streets of England where Jack the Ripper once prowled. (7 pm to midnight every Friday & Saturday in October, as well as Halloween night)
The haunted experience at
Lantana Express Car Wash will plague your nightmares for weeks to come. Is that Michael Meyers in the rear view mirror or just another figment of your imagination? You'll have to return to find out. (Last week in October)
Experience chills at
Haunted Hollow on secluded land near Lake Cherokee where no one can hear you scream. They boast three haunted attractions: The Twisted Hay Barn, The Horror Den, and The Haunted Woods. You'll love the freaky games and munchies but city folks beware! This isn't your average haunted house visit. (Every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in October)
Enjoy the chill in the air with a
Haunted Hayride at the
Paul G Boorman Trail. There will be music, arts & crafts, a game booth, and most importantly-- a haunted hayride! The hayride departs every 30 minutes from two locations on the trail so park at the Fairmont entrance or the HG Mosely entrance and get ready for some fun. Kona Ice and Gino's Tacos will have treats for sale. (Saturday, Oct. 23 from 11 am to 4 pm)
Join the
Gregg County Historical Museum for a spooky night of haunts, legends and jack-o-lanterns. Begin your evening with the Historic Haunts and Legends Walking Tour of Downtown Longview. Follow your tour guide as they take you through the streets of Longview telling tales of the ghosts of the local opera house, the young girl that haunts the second floor of the museum, or the haunted mirror that still hands in a local house. Maybe you will spot one of our talented ArtsView Children's Theater performers in costume along the route. Tours leave the museum at 5:00, 6:00, 7:00, and 8:00 p.m. Tours are $20 each and can be purchased on event brite at

Looking for something for the kids? Participate in the Pumpkin Glo! Try your hand at carving a jack-o-lantern or decorating a pumpkin. Drop it off at the
Gregg County Historical Museum on Friday, October 22nd from 9 am to 5 pm for judging. All pumpkins will be displayed at the Longview Public Library, Longview World of Wonders or at the Gregg County Historical Museum. (4 pm on Saturday, Oct. 23)
Bring the whole family to an outdoor showing of "
Hocus Pocus" on the
Gregg County Courthouse lawn. This film follows a villainous comedic trio of witches who are inadvertently resurrected by a teenage boy in Salem, Massachusetts, on Halloween night. Make sure to bring your chair, popcorn and candy. (7:30 pm Saturday, Oct. 23)
Attend a performance of
Theatre Longview's Clue, a hilarious farce-meets-murder mystery. The tale begins at a remote mansion, where six mysterious guests assemble for an unusual dinner party where murder and blackmail are on the menu. When their host turns up dead, they all become suspects. Led by Wadsworth – the butler, Miss Scarlett, Professor Plum, Mrs. White, Mr. Green, Mrs. Peacock and Colonel Mustard race to find the killer as the body count stacks up. The show is at Grace Crossing United Methodist Church. (Oct. 22-24)
ADB & Sparklight will be hosting a
Trunk or Treat benefiting the Longview Dream Center at the Longview Exhibit Building. This event will have a costume contest, candy giveaway, games, and is completely free event. For more information call Finders Keepers Thrift Store (6 to 8 pm on Oct. 29)
If you love True Crime then don't miss
True Crime Crew: Strange Murders at the Longview Public Library. The topic for this month's discussion: Strange Murders. Christian and Josh will delve into cases of grisly murders and crime that included strange occurrences like cannibalism and ritual sacrifices. This is only for 18 and older due to the graphic nature of the program content. It's free to attend. (Thursday, Oct. 28 at 6:30 pm)
Wear your scariest costume and head to
REO Starplex Event Center & Roller Rink for a
Halloween Costume Contest at the rink. They will host two contests, one earlier for the kids between 7 and 10 pm and one that carries over into the evening as part of their Adult Skate event. Come have some Halloween fun at REO Starplex! (Saturday, Oct. 30)
Enjoy Pine Tree ISD's
Fall Fest at Pirate Stadium. Tickets can be purchased at each Pine Tree campus in bundles of 20 for $5. Tickets at the festival are 25 cents. This event features free hot dogs, a costume parade, P.T.'s Got Talent, fun, and games. (3 to 6 pm on Saturday, Oct. 30)

Longview Public Library's
Thriller Date Night will leave you in chills. All month, specially wrapped horror and thriller/mystery books will be available for checkout. The only catch? Other than a few keywords and clues, you won’t be able to tell what you’re getting! Scary right? Look for the Thriller Date Night display by the front desk. When the date is finished, return the included survey to the front desk or survey box by the display. Your name will be entered in for a raffle prize drawing! This fun event is for ages 18 and older due to potential graphic content of these books. Free to participate with your library card. (Until Oct. 31)
